Connecting with nature is an important part of overall wellbeing. This often means surrounding yourself with natural settings such as plants, trees and animals or areas with fields, rivers and waterfalls. In addition to physically surrounding yourself in nature, intentional actions to towards harmony between humans and nature can also have a positive impact on overall physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. This includes ensuring equal and equitable access to green spaces, participating in efforts to reduce and eliminate pollution, promoting sustainable farming, and ensuring clean, breathable air and clean, drinkable water. 

 

Signs of Optimal Health & Wellness

Indicators of thriving include: 

  • Feeling a harmonious connection with nature, including plants and animals
  • Feeling connected to the Earth and universe
  • A sense of responsibility for reducing and eliminating pollution, and promoting access to green spaces for yourself and others

Warning Signs

Indicators of warning:

  • Feeling disconnected from nature
  • Feelings of loneliness or despair
  • Indifference to pollution
  • Indifference to sustainable farming
  • Indifference to clean air and water
  • Decline in physical, mental, spiritual and emotional health overall

SELF EVALUATION

The demands of daily living can often cause people to disconnect from nature. But this connection is vital to human thriving. Ask yourself: Do I feel connected to nature? Do I participate in making sure we all have access to clean air and water? Do I have access to or make use of existing parks and green spaces? If these answers are no, it may be time to take actions towards reconnecting with your natural environment. 

 

 

SELF-CARE

  • Spend 15-20 minutes outside daily
  • Grow your own food or plants
  • Get involved with local parks and planning
  • Evaluate the products and foods you buy
  • Go to farmer’s markets
  • Recycle
